C14. Citrus Clementine Reticulata

Citrus Clementine Reticulata

Update - October 18th 2020

I am really happy with my old Clementine.   Its had its ups and downs and is now many years old . I bought this in nursery in Ringwood in Hampshire, England.  It was my first or maybe second citrus I ever owned so must be about 18 years since I bought it.

Update - July 12th 2019

Very happy with the clementine, lots of healthy leaves and  a good colour. No scale, it suffered black sooty mould in the past but its fine  now.

2018

This is the very first citrus I bought, more than 15-years ago from Ringwood Nurseries.
Its susceptible to black sooty mold, mainly caused by aphid infestation.   And scale insects nurtured by ants.

I have cleaned every leaf on this plant a  few times with soapy water that keeps the mold away. I also needed to cut it back a bit last year but hopefully it will do well again.   A real favorite.

Here it is in October 2018 after a year of intensive care.  I am really happy with it, fascinating to compare the two pictures - less than a year apart.   It was originally about a foot higher [when bought] than in this picture but it looks like the new growth will get it back to its original glory.

And here it is at the beginning of 2018, OK but slightly sad.   Less really green growth. This picture is just before I gave it a shaping pruning and also cut out some dead wood.

Note
It is considered to be a hybrid of the Mediterranean mandarin and a sweet orange.
Commonly called mandarin orange, reportedly a chance hybrid in the garden of Father Clement Rodier in 1902.
